*Spoiler alerts*
Full Name: Eragon 'Shadeslayer' Bromsson
Age: 16
Race: Human but with distinct characteristics of Elves due to the Elven 'Blood-Oath Celebration'.
Class: A Dragon Rider who has sworn alliance to the Varden. He is also a sword fighter, magician and quite adept with a bow.
Gender: Male
Religion: He has no religion however he seems to believe that there must be some god or gods.
Magic: Eragon is a rather strong magician knowing how to fluently speak in the ancient language and therefore knowing how to form most spells. He is perhaps one of the strongest magicians in the Varden in this respect. He can also store power in the ring Aren or in the 12 crystals in his belt Beloth the Wise.
Birthplace: Carvahall
Strengths: Eragon is a kind hearted soul who cares a lot about his family. He would go so far as to risk his life for them. He loves each and every one of them with all his heart. He has a good sense of moral judgement and due to his age when he became the 'only free Dragon Rider' he would probably not back away from the responsibilities he has to the Varden as he believes that if he gives his word then he must stick to it. He is strong and has great determination.
Weaknesses: Eragon will go to no ends to protect his family. He has great determination and sometimes can not judge his own weaknesses. He gives his word on things a little too often and therefore he feels as though he must stick to it. He is currently bonded to Nasuada and King Orik in a sense. He also has obligations to Islanzadi.
Description: Eragon was a human, originally with intense brown eyes, dark thick eyebrows and brown hair. After being influenced by elvish magic at the Blood-Oath Celebration he attended in Ellesméra, however, he much more closely resembled an elf; his face became more angular, pale, and smooth, his eyes became slanted, and his ears became pointed. All blemishes on his body were healed. He did retain some human qualities, including thicker cheek bones and the need to shave. He also becomes as fit as the fittest elf in Ellesméra. Eragon, being human originally, during the Blood-Oath Celebration Eragon had been given a great gift from the dragons, he was given the physical and mental attributes of an elf, and he was relieved of his curse placed upon him by the shade Durza. He also has a gedwëy ignasia on the palm of his hand which glows whenever he uses magic. It is the mark of a Dragon Rider.
A rather headstong lad with strong virtues and an even stronger sense of justice. He cares for all those around him and will seek to right any wrongs that he may have committed such as with Elva, the witch child whom he cursed in Farthen Dur. He loves and supports his family strongly and will go to the ends of the earth to protect them.
Being one of the two last free Dragon Riders (Or so he believes) in Alagaesia, he has a great need to be polite and political, attributes that have seeped into his personality. He is usually not one to joke around too much under constant fear that he may offend one group that the Varden has formed an alliance with.
Weapons: Eragon carries a sapphire blue sword named Brisingr. This sword can be lit on fire whenever he says the word 'brisingr' a blue light erupting all around it when he says this word.
History: Eragon was born in Carvahall in Palancar valley. He grew up relatively happy apart from the fact that he knew neither of his parents, he thought that both Garrow and Marian were his parents until Marian revealed the truth to him while on her deathbed. He was very close to his cousin Roran while growing up and regarded him as a brother and his uncle Garrow and aunt Marian as his parents but this news struck him deeply. He wondered who his parents were and why they had not been able to stay with him. He often thought that his mother was royalty and that one day she would come back for him.
When he came to the age of 15 Eragon often went hunting in the Spine, a place where most in Carvahall feared to go. While hunting a deer Eragon found a strange, sapphire blue rock. He took it thinking that he might be able to sell it for something. When he got back to town he found that the rock was worthless and decided to keep it. Little did he know just how priceless it was. It contained a dragon, a blue one and one of the last few remaining in Alagaesia. Because any reminders of the era of the Dragon Riders were outlawed in the The Empire, Eragon raised the dragon in secret, torn between his delight with his new companion and his fear of what might happen should the Empire discover what had occurred. He eventually resolved to keep her, and built a home for her high in the branches of a tree. After consulting with Brom, the village story-teller, as to a good name for a dragon (without telling him of his dragon), he named her Saphira. For a while, he managed to keep her hidden, but when Saphira and her appetite continued to grow, he realized he would not be able to keep her existence a secret much longer.
Things were going fine until two menacing, hooded beings of immense power, the Ra'zac, came to Carvahall, searching for the dragon egg. Sometime after being warned about the strangers, Brom saved Eragon from them, but also (unknown to Eragon at the time) comfirming that Eragon was indeed a Rider, after twisting Eragon's wrist up, revealing the gedwëy ignasia. Saphira, now able to mentally communicate her thoughts, forced Eragon to flee with her, while the Ra'zac destroyed Eragon's farm, and tortured Garrow, who died a short while after.
When Eragon first rode on Saphira, he suffered terrible wounds from her scales, which scraped his legs so badly that it ripped open the skin, making him bleed horribly.
Eragon left Carvahall with Saphira and Brom and vowed to wreak their revenge on the Ra'zac for what they had done to Garrow. Brom taught Eragon swordsmanship as well as the history of the Dragon Riders. It was then that Eragon learned that he was named after the first Dragon Rider Eragon, and elf.
When he later tried to defend himself and Brom, from an Urgal ambush in Yazuac, he discovered that he was able to use magic. Questioning Brom about it, he learned that all Dragon Riders possessed magical abilities, and Brom subsequently took it upon himself to instruct Eragon in the proper use of the talent.
Along their journey Eragon also learned to read and write, talents which Garrow had neglected thinking them to be useless. Shortly after they were ambushed by the Raz'ac outside Helgrind. Brom was fatally wounded by one of the Raz'ac blades and Eragon decided he and Saphira would join their new found friend on their quest to join the Varden. Heading to Gil'ead in the hopes that someone there would be able to tell them where they could contact the Varden. Outside Gil'ead Eragon was captured by the shade Durza and imprisoned him there. It was in Gilead that Eragon discovered the maiden from his dreams and insisted upon rescuing her when Murtagh and Saphira came to rescue him. The maiden was an Elf named Arya, Eragon learned her name as they approached the Beor mountains when he touched her mind while she was unconscious. She informed him of where he could find the Varden and they set off towards Farthen Dur so that she could be healed of the poison Durza had used on her.
Upon arriving at Farthen Dur Arya was taken away to be cured and Eragon and Murtagh's minds were examined. Once learning that Murtagh was the son of Morzan, Ajihad, the leader of the Varden imprisoned him once they had arrived in the dwarven capital of Tronjheim. Ajihad wanted to send Eragon to Ellesmera to complete his training and therefore two magicians from the Varden known as 'the Twins' assessed his magical ability. The Twins were cruel to Eragon, and attempted to use him to further their knowledge of the Ancient Language. A fully-healed Arya intervened, however, and took the task of assessing Eragon upon herself, sparring with him. Eragon, although being soundly defeated, passed the test in Arya's eyes. Soon after Eragon had arrived in Tronjheim he was aproached by a woman who wanted him to bless an orphaned child by the name of Elva. Eragon attempted to bless the child by casting a spell in the ancient language saying, "May you be shielded against misfortune."
Not long after information was received about the immediate threat of Kulls and Urgals marching to destroy the Varden. A battle began and Eragon found himself in the centre of it. Eragon was confronted once again by Durza. Eragon was greatly outmatched against the Shade but, thanks to a sudden distraction from Saphira and Arya, Durza's attention was diverted long enough for Eragon to stab him through the heart. Eragon paid a terrible price for his deed: he was wounded on the back, and the scar would trouble him greatly over the course of the next few months.Following Durza's demise, the controlling link the Shade held on the Urgal's minds snapped, causing the remainder of them to flee and fight among each other. Eragon fainted and was tended to by healers. He was watched over by the mental presence of the Mourning Sage/The Cripple Who Is Whole, who urged him to follow Arya to Ellesméra, the capital of the elves to finish his training.
Eragon followed the advice of the 'Cripple who is whole' and travelled to Ellesmera with Orik, Arya and Saphira. Before they set off Orik had a gift from the king. He said that the king offered to adopt Eragon into his own clan, Dûrgrimst Ingeitum. Eragon accepted, and Orik helped him complete the ritual to make him a true member of the clan. This was the first time in history that a human joined a dwarf family. Upon arrival at Ellesmera, Eragon met with Islanzadí, the elven queen, and the enigmatic raven Blagden, who spouted riddles concerning Eragon's past and future. Eragon was surprised to learn that Arya was Islanzadí's daughter, and therefore heir to the elven throne.
Eragon's training began the next day with an ancient Elven Rider Oromis and his gold dragon Glaedr. Eragon's exercises with Oromis were frustrating at first, but gradually Eragon learned what it meant to be a true Rider, guided by principles and making responsible choices, and came to understand that his "training" was an ongoing process that would last his entire life. His knowledge of Magic and the Ancient language grew tremendously over this time. He also learned, to his horror, that he had cursed the orphaned child Elva having said 'May you be a shield of misfortune' instead of what he thought he had said and vowed that he would revoke the curse so that she would not have to shield people from their 'hurt'.
Eragon's training also honed his fighting skills. He developed an intense rivalry with an elf named Vanir, and their mutual dislike came to a head during their sparring sessions. Eragon was defeated multiple times, often suffering bouts of pain from the scar on his back.
Tutored by Oromis, Eragon composed a poem to present at the Blood-Oath Celebration, a traditional Elvish ceremony commemorating the pact between the Elves and the Dragons. During the festivities, as a magical gift from the dragon race, Eragon was finally healed of his wound, and was physically transformed, acquiring the features and abilities of an elf. Only after this transformation was he able to beat Vanir, breaking the elf's arm. The two made amends.
Eragon became like the elves, as powerful as they are and as adept at using magic.
After this he scryed Nasuada, the new leader of the Varden as Ajihad had been killed in the Battle of Farthen Dur, he learned that Galbatorix was summoning an army together to attack the Varden at Surda.
Eragon and Orik departed from Ellesméra and flew south on Saphira. They joined up with the combined forces of Surda and the Varden on The Burning Plains.
The Empire was over 100,000 strong, greatly outnumbering the Varden. From the start of the battle, the Empire pushed the Varden back. Thankfully, the dwarves appeared not far into the battle, turning the tide for the Varden. Unexpectedly, another Rider appeared, mounted on a red dragon. Wearied by the battle, Eragon was easily outmatched and driven onto the ground with Saphira.
He and his opponent fought with swords until Eragon recognised the manner of fighting as Murtagh even though he had been pronounced dead in the Battle at Farthen Dur. He managed to pull off the helm revealing his assumptions to be true. Murtagh had been captured and taken to Uru'baen by the twins and there Thorn, the red dragon, Hatched for him. They were forced to swear fealty to Galbatorix and are under his command. Galbatorix knew his true name, so was able to control him. His orders from Galbatorix were to try to capture Eragon and Saphira because she was the last female dragon in existence. Galbatorix needed her to fulfill his goal of rebuilding the order of the Riders. Murtagh decided to have mercy on them because of his and Eragons past, but he claimed Zar'roc as his own, and revealed another terrible truth: Eragon was Morzan's son and Murtaghs younger brother.
Eragon revealed the news to Arya, Nasuada and Roran and agreed to set off to Helgrind to rescue Roran's betrothed from the Ra'zac.
They, with Saphira, killed one Ra'zac and Lethrblaka and rescued Katrina however there was one Ra'zac that survived and Eragon stayed behind to search for it while Saphira took Katrina and Roran back to the Varden. Eragon also stayed behind as he had found Katrina's father Sloan in the stronghold. He took Sloan, the butcher who had betrayed Carvahall, and on his way back to the Varden accidentally discovered his true name. He told his to go to Ellesmera and see the Elves even though he had become blind. He spoke with Islanzadi and understood that if Sloan could change then he would have his eyesight restored.
Eragon arrived at the Varden and was asked by his cousin Roran whether he could perform the ceremony that would allow Roran and Katrina to be joined as man and wife. While they were preparing for the wedding a small battalion of soldiers from the Empire attacked along with Murtagh and Thorn, the intention was to capture Eragon and bring him back to Galbatorix. Before Eragon arrived at the Varden, the 12 Elven spellcasters sent by Islanzadi to protect Eragon had arrived and now they had their first difficult task. To fend off the Red dragon and his rider and keep Eragon safe. Again when Eragon touched Murtagh's mind he found that there were multiple consciouses seemingly present in his mind prompting Eragon to believe that Murtagh had some spellcasters of his own assisting him. Eragon and Saphira managed to overpower Murtagh and Thorn with the help of Blodgarm and the 11 other elven spellcasters even though many of the elves passed out by the end of the battle as Murtagh was fleeing.
After the wedding ceremony was completed Eragon was called to Nasuada's tent. He was told to head to the Dwarves and attempt to manipulate the proceedings so that a king would be elected to rule who favoured the Varden. Eragon was attacked in the tunnels by the Dwarven tribe Az Sweldn rak Anhuin. This turned the contest for throne in favour of Orik, Eragon's foster brother and the Grimstborith of Durgrimst Ingeitum. Orik became the ruler of the dwarves and Saphira came to join Eragon for the coronation having been left behind to keep up the illusion that Eragon was still with the Varden.
Shortly after the coronation Eragon and Saphira set out for Ellesmera once again in order to meet with their mentors Oromis and Glaedr. Upon arriving Eragon learned that his father was not Morzan but rather his first mentor and teacher Brom. This shocked him greatly but also relieved him for he no longer had to live under the shadow that he was closely related to Murtagh and Morzan. Eragon set out to find a weapon. A sword. He spoke to Rhunon and discovered that if he were to receive a sword he would need brightsteel. He found this under the Menoa tree and he takes it to Rhunon. He forges his own blade with Rhunon in his mind controlling his actions and named the blade 'Brisingr' also discovering that whenever he says this word his sword bursts into blue flames. the next day he requested of Oromis that he learn how to send an object from one place to another in a matter of seconds. He also learned of the Dragon's Heart of Hearts and he and Saphira received Glaedr's. He learned that this was the way that Galbatorix maintained his immense power. They set off together and on the edge of Du Weldenvarden went their separate ways. Oromis and Glaedr towards Gil'ead and Eragon towards Feinster.
Eragon arrived at Feinster to assist Arya in opening the gate to allow the Varden entry. He rushed through the fortress towards the keep with Arya and Saphira. Upon reaching the keep they found Lady Lorana and three magicians who were attempting to make a fourth one into a Shade. They killed two but the third managed to complete the spell. Throughout this time Eragon and Saphira were having visions through Glaedr's Eldunari of the battle at Gil'ead learning that Glaedr and Oromis had died. They helped Arya to kill the shade making her the fourth person to survive killing a Shade. Then they reported their news to Nasuada and Arya sinking into slight depression as they realised that they were the last free Dragon and Rider. Not realising that there were more eggs to be found.........
RP Sample: Eragon sat with his eyes closed and his legs crossed just inside his tent. The one that was a part of the Varden, where he resided when he was with them. It was surprising that he had time to do The exercises that Oromis had started him on when he begun training with the ancient elf. He missed the elf and realised again that he was the only free Dragon Rider left in all of Alagaesia. He sighed a little and opened his eyes. Weren't these exercises supposed to relax you? He shook his head a little trying to push the thoughts from his mind. He got to his feet and walked outside the tent. looking around seeing Saphira curled up nearby, seemingly asleep. Who could blame her? It was early morning and they would probably need their rest for the day that lay ahead. Of course, they didn't know what lay ahead really but he could hazard a guess. More meeting and greeting perhaps... Not to mention that the Dwarves from Farthen Dur would probably be joining them soon. He rubbed the back of his neck subconsciously and walked forward to the Dragon 'sleeping' before him. Saphira's eyes flickered open as he approached.
We will have need of seeing Nasuada today, there is little doubt that she will not have some task for us to complete today. He said to her as she got to her feet.
Their link as Dragon and Rider ran as deep as their thoughts, they were constantly connected when they were close to one another and when they were apart they seemed to know how the other was doing. It was the epitome of companionship. They were always close and Eragon would have it no other way. This was what life was meant to be for him and it was sad that not many others shared this relationship. They were one of three Riders and Dragons and the only ones free to make their own choices. He frowned and looked up as a soldier of his charger came bolting towards them skidding to a halt just in front of him.
"They've found one and it's hatched, you're not alone anymore!"
Full Name: Saphira
Age: 2
Race: Dragon
Class: Dragon Bonded to the human Eragon
Gender: Female
Religion: She has no religion
Magic: She can summon great amounts of magic but not when she wants. She can also supply Eragon with strength when he casts spells.
Birthplace: Technically Carvahall where she hatched but it is not really stated where her egg was actually produced...
Strengths: Saphira is a Dragon, so naturally she is very physically strong. She is one of the only Dragon's left in Alagaesia and this gives her strength to stay alive and fight for what she believes is right. She has a strong bond with Eragon, her Rider, making them a true pair. Saphira is rather vicious and demands respect believing herself to be one of the last three Dragons alive. She demonstrated this when she attacked the Menoa tree, a much stronger being than herself.
She is also very protective of Eragon and will not allow harm to come to him in any way if she can help it. She can also be very distant towards other humans and even elves talking only truly openly to Arya as she considers the elf almost Family.
Weaknesses: Saphira often has little patience choosing to use violence to get what she wants sometimes. She insinuates violence occasionally by roaring and cutting off people who are speaking in order to move on if people happen to be debating such things. She also usually refrains from actually speaking to most people, choosing to blink instead of answering when a question is asked of her.
She also would do anything for Eragon, even risk her life to keep him alive although this is admirable, it is doubtful whether she would be able to restrain herself enough to stay alive, like most dragons and riders who have lost their partner she would probably commit suicide or go on her own mission that would result in her death.
Description: Saphira is a sapphire blue dragon with equally matching eyes. She is sometimes described as 'completely alien' as she is almost alone in the world and most people would have never had their mind touched by a dragon. Saphira started out as being alien to Eragon but over time he came to know her and who she was and therefore this changed. Saphira is nearly fully grown however Thorn, Murtagh's dragon is larger than her despite being younger. Saphira has two sets of white, serrated teeth and her talons, neck, back, and tail spikes are bone-white. She also has four cheek spines and slightly curved horns, and forehead spines between her horns. She is highly suited to the air and is a natural flier.
Saphira is protective and proud. She can often turn violent very quickly when she believes Eragon to be in danger. She is proud of being a dragon and will often make a point of being one of the last ones. She feels empathy towards Thorn and Shruikan who were forced into the servitude of Galbatorix, especially Shruikan as he had no choice. She is almost like a mother to Eragon, constantly worrying about him and trying to protect him. She often believes that if she is not with Eragon then he would probably die.
Weapons: She has sharp, bone white talons and strong teeth. Apart from this she is an adept flier and is also very strong muscle wise. She can breath fire which is the same colour as her scales and often uses this to show her annoyance or to gain attention. Her roar can also invoke fear and dismay into the hearts of her enemies and strength and triumph into the hearts of her allies.
History: Saphira was born to Iormungr, a male dragon bound to a Dragon Rider, and Vervada, a formidable, wild female dragon. Both dragons perished during the downfall of the Dragon Riders. The fact that Saphira did not know her parents and that they both died seems to deepen the bond between her and Eragon.
Saphira's sapphire-coloured egg, along with two others - emerald and ruby - was found and taken by Galbatorix during the downfall. Galbatorix tried desperately to find a person for whom Saphira's egg or one of the others would hatch, but was unsuccessful. None of the dragon infants responded to the touch of anyone in the Empire. Later in Galbatorix's reign, a former Rider known as Brom and a scholar named Jeod discovered a secret entrance into Urû'baen. With the support of the Varden, Brom and Jeod followed the hidden entrance, Their mission went amiss and they were only able to recover a single egg. Saphira's.
Saphira's egg was carried between the Varden and elves for many years by the Elf Arya and her mate Faolin. Even though Saphira had not hatched she seemed to know who it was that carried her later in life.
During one of the trips back to the elves Arya and Faolin were attacked by a band of Urgals and the Shade Durza. Arya transported the egg away thinking that it would be transported to and found by Brom, a former Dragon Rider. Arya was captured and Faolin killed.
Saphira's egg was left in the Spine until morning when it was discovered by the farmboy Eragon. Eragon thought it was simply a valuable stone and took it to sell it. Later, he when he had decided to keep it, Saphira hatched for him. When Eragon touched the her his right palm burned suddenly and sent an icy feeling through out him, giving him the gedwey ignasia, the mark of a Dragon Rider. Their minds were linked mentally, and almost immediately they were able to communicate images and feelings to one another. Later, these stunted exchanges progressed into real conversations.
Saphira is named after Brom's dragon Saphira as Eragon asked Brom what a good name for a dragon was and he told him this name.
Saphira and Eragon started out as simply two bodies that were thrown together by fate but as time passed their bond deepened. She travelled along with Brom and Eragon across the empire however she had to often only fly at night to keep her away from the notice of the empire as a whole. It is later revealed that while Eragon is recovering from injuries Brom told Saphira that he was Eragon's father but made her swear not to tell him. He also left Saphira with a memory to show Eragon.
When Eragon was captured and imprisoned in Gil'ead it was Saphira and Murtagh who rescued him. Saphira often found that she was forced to hide and only fly at night as they travelled through the Empire.
They reached Farthen Dur where the Varden were hidden and Saphira was welcomed with honor and awe. It was the first time that many of them had ever seen a Dragon before and she was regarded as something similar to a God.
After Saphira fought at Eragon's side during the Battle under Farthen Dûr, Eragon underwent training as a true Rider by Oromis in Ellesméra. She was likewise tutored by Oromis' male, gold dragon, Glaedr, and developed a romantic attachment to her mentor, which was spurned. She later repented of her brashness.
Saphira later fought against Thorn at the Battle of The Burning Plains. They fought again soon after Eragon and Saphira were reunited on the burning plains after their trip to helgrind. This time they came off as the victors with the help of the 12 elven spell-casters assigned by Islanzadi to protect her and Eragon.
They were soon parted again when Eragon was sent away to try and manipulate the choosing of a Dwarf king. Saphira was irritable at this time refraining from saying too much to anyone unless it was absolutely imperative. She often took to hunting by herself but needed to maintain her strength for night flying to make the Empire believe that she and Eragon were flying night missions.
They both returned to Oromis and Glaedr for the last of their training before the Battle of Feinster after Orik was crowned king of the Dwarves. There, Saphira showed Eragon the memory that Brom had left with her. He was at first a little angry at her for not telling him but he overcame this anger and understood that Saphira had no choice as she had sworn to Brom in the ancient language not to tell Eragon unless his life was in danger.
Along with Eragon, she witnessed and mourned the death of their masters through the use of Glaedr's Heart of Hearts. Saphira was most affected by this as she now knew herself to be the only Free Dragon. She felt isolated and alone, even more so than she had felt before as now she had had something that had been torn away from her rather than just knowing she was the last Free Dragon.
Saphira is the last female of her kind, or so she believes, and therefore Galbatorix wants her under his control so that he can breed a whole new race of dragons.
RP Sample: Saphira twisted her body upon itself changing directions. She was Queen of the sky and no one could take that away from her. Oromis himelf had said that she was naturally suited to the sky and therefore, this was her realm. This was where she was able to do whatever she wanted. She puffed a little allowing a jet of sapphire blue flames to escape her nostrils. She looked down towards the ground. They were just outside Feinster having completed the battle and the Varden had once again set up camp during their march. She disliked the marching, oh how she disliked it. They took far too long, those two-legged creatures. She let out another jet of flame as she huffed a little at the slow progress the Varden seemed to be making. This was a war wasn't it? She arched her neck and dove down a few meters towards the ground then stopped and began flying on the air currents holding her wings out to the sides. She had only been aloft for a few minutes wanting to hunt by herself without the weight of Eragon on her back, it allowed her to perform maneuvers that were only used for hunting. Presently she looked at the ground, searching, searching for her first prey. She flicked her tongue out hungrily as she saw a deer dart between some trees.
Ignorant creature. she thought as she dove down to the trees and grabbed the four-legged creature in her claws.
She had killed the animal by piercing it with her talons and set about devouring the animal. She licked her talons having finished her meal and soared over to the camp having felt the presence of Eragon's mind pressing against hers. There was good news, she could feel it.
